Shanda – A Diamond in the Rough – Online Gaming Versus Online Gambling

What Makes Online Casinos Attractive for Gamblers? - South Florida ReporterEveryone thought that even though land-based casino revenues worldwide are taking a hit because of this incredibly tough recession that online gaming revenue on the other hand would slot deposit 5000 be new to the tough economic times because of the little amount of expenses it takes to operate an online casino but this hasn’t been the case.

Even online casinos worldwide are starting to feel the pinch of a recession that borders on the depression and you can see this not only from the numbers but from all of their forward outlook on future revenues, but there are still some diamonds in the rough as far as online gambling companies to either gamble at or invest in through the stock market. One of the online gaming companies that is growing revenue and net income like gangbusters is the Chinese online gaming firm Shanda.

While everyone else is losing their shirt financially Shanda has announced incredible revenue gains for the third quarter of 2008. Their revenues have increased by 41% over last year’s third-quarter revenues and net income increased over 20% from last year.

Shanda has done so well because it has decided to focus more on online games and online board games rather than online gambling games. The potential for online game playing in China is incredible and if they could do this well during the recession imagine how well it will do when we come out of this recession. Even though online gambling hasn’t been hit as hard as land-based gambling in China, the one area that seems to be outpacing them all is the online game arena. I think that American gambling companies should learn a lesson from this company and try to shift their focus more so away from online gambling during the recession to online games because of the fact that online games have become almost a culture unto itself with the younger generation as we start to move online at a younger age every year. It’s surprising how many people make their living out of gambling and the numbers keep rising with the onset of numerous online gambling possibilities. Gambling obviously involves some risk and usually any game you play usually is weighted in favour of the house. The main reason most gamblers lose is emotion – they don’t know when to walk away, gamblers chase their losses and gamblers blow their winnings. So can online gambling software help you be more more clinical in your gambling habits?

I’m as guilty of all the above traits mentioned above – that one last bet to recoup your losses on the most open horse race at the end of the card, the “I’m not leaving now when I’m on a winning streak” but after all gambling is pretty fun as well. I’ve recently been playing the online casinos and actually doing rather well from it by using some online gambling software.

Now if you walk into a real casino then pretty much every outcome is possible – the spin of a wheel is the epitome of pure chance. Those silly cards that people religiously fill in for hours on end – working out that road to riches lies with the low numbers is a fallacy. The data you write on those card is useless and the casinos know this – which is why they helpfully hand them out. The outcome of a spin of a wheel is not influenced in any way by the last 1000 spins – all results are possible despite what your card suggests. It appears that many lawmakers have had enough of online gambling and want it to stop. The issues has been going on for nearly a decade and many states are quite perturbed that online gambling bypasses their state’s laws forbidding gambling. Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist is very upset and said on CSPAN that; Internet Gambling is illegal, it is that simple and that is the bottom line.

Of course he is not alone in this move to stop online gambling, as many states are upset who have gambling as it is cutting into their profits and tax revenues. States like Nevada, NJ and Mississippi are upset, because many of these online gambling operations are run offshore. Indian Casinos do not like it either and they all have been heavy handed in campaign contributions.

The new bill will have measures to prohibit the use of online checks, credit card use and electronic payments to settle bets, aimed at shutting down such operations. It also becomes a National Security Issue as it is believed that some of these illegal operations are funding our International Terrorist Enemies abroad, which there is proof suggesting many links.

Federal Officials have made some very big arrests from offshore companies very recently running illegal Internet Gambling Sites. Most of these illegal sites are operating outside the united states by criminal elements and this is a big issue. Hopefully we can catch the sneaky bad guys and prevent illegal gambling money from funding our enemies and the International Terrorists.
